The Social Studies curriculum at St Francis Solano School is structured after the California State Standards and features deep explorations into the many aspects of History and Geography that our fantastic world has lain before us.
The general pattern of each grade level is listed below.

Kindergarten: We begin to explore the community around us and how we contribute to this community. We start with the study of our classroom, then we turn our efforts to the school, neighborhood and then the town community. We also learn about the many Americans whom have made this Country great.

1st Grade:
We study the world around us first learning how to read and create time lines, then learning how to read and create simple maps.  We use this new knowledge to study our local communities and our global neighbors. 

2nd Grade:
We learn about depending on others around us, knowing our families, living in our country and people who make a difference

3rd Grade:
We study native Americans, the Land, Settlers in the Northwest, Settlers moving West, and the History of Sonoma County.

4th grade:
We study California history from the early Native California tribes to the Mission period, to westward expansion, the Gold Rush period and the transcontinental railroad. Several field trips with an emphasis on California history are planned including a trip to Sacramento to visit Sutter's Fort and the California Railroad Museum.

5th grade:  This year is all about early American History from the time the first humans arrived up to the revolution.  Special attention is given to the states and the colonial time period.

6th Grade: 
Focus is on ancient civilizations.  State standards are followed.

7th Grade:
We study the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America in the years 400 B.C. to 1789 A.D.

8th Grade:
We study the ideas, the transformation and events that occurred in the United States from the American Revolution to World War I.
